March 15, 2010 – A Traitor in the Midst

Despite the setbacks of losing B-bear (he works around the kennel, but can’t do tours anymore since he hurt his knee) and Beagle (got a new job), we were getting along fine.

March always picks up during spring breaks, so have had a busy schedule. We are down to just mornings as the afternoons have been getting too hot to run dogs. We’ve had a few 50 degree days to remind us all there is an end to winter.

The traitor, however, revealed himself when E-bear decided to leave at the end of the week to go rafting. With only a couple weeks to go, it’s a rough time to be short-handed as the rest of us will be working every busy day into infinity.

Little does e-bear know, I will be holding his dogs captive till he agrees to return to work at the end of the week. (I’m watching his dogs for a day while he’s on his trip).

Momma kitty finally had her kittens. It was a small litter of only 5. She usually has 7 or 8. Very cute little ones and adjusting to their new life.

The dogs have had a ton of energy and are incredibly strong. I’ve taken out two trips where I’ve driven and can’t believe the difference in the race team compared to the regular dogs. Even with eight small race team dogs, I was barely able to keep them at a slow enough pace. I was on the brakes with one or both feet the entire trip.

It’s so incredible to really feel their strength and connect with them again. The trail has been melting quickly, so snow is needed.

The time change has also been rough and is taking a bit of time to adjust to. The 5:30 am mornings are now as pitch black as the dead of winter. Not too horrible, but trying to walk a dog that’s easily distracted is tough when you can’t see her.
