January 18, 2010 – Chaos

6:30 am. 7 degrees.

Was unable to stay warm today, not sure what was going on, even with Toasty Toes and hand warmers. We had five sleds in the morning, but none of the guys wanted to go in one group, they thought it would be too chaotic. Probably a good decision since one of the guests tipped twice and Beagle tipped the snowmobile turning around to help (Beagle – you have no idea how much I feel your pain – it’s usually me). We were able to get everyone back safely. Brian and I had an easy trip with a father/daughter from New Jersey. I could tell he wanted to run the dogs, so I stayed close and all went well.

Then we had the afternoon. A group of women came out that had been there the year before. They’d been having some fun before they got there and Stu asked if he could be their guide as he’d been out with them the year before. Brian and were fine with that, which left us with a family from Michigan.

We got the first group of three sleds out and had just begun harnessing the second group when Stu pulled back in with a guest on the back of the snowmobile. Uh-oh.  Turns out she had fallen off around the second turn and broken her shoulder. We got our teams out safely and had a great trip, with the guests really respectful of the dogs and the pace we had set.

Everyone was very generous and we took the woman to the ER and made sure she was okay, getting her medications before we dropped her back at her hotel.

This is a bit off topic. We as Dog owners, have we ever thought about how much dog waste is being sent to the landfills? Use flushable dog poop bags. EPA recommends flushing dog waste as the best method of disposal. Check out Flushaable Dog Poop Bags
