7:30 am. -23 degrees.
The boys were frosty, feet feeling the cold, but I had toasty toes and hand warmers and I was feeling good. The sun was shining and other than the cold, it was a beautiful day.
Kris was nervous about starting the machines in such cold weather, but two of the four wheelers started right up, so I headed out with the old-timers. I decided to mix things up a bit by putting Red, Jack, Dino, Smoky, Vera and Darryl with Bandit, Tyson, Wes, Sage and Alma Rose.
It was a bit rough for them on the uphills, but considering the combined age of all of them must have been close to 100, they did great. It was the furtherst most of this group has gone. I had Tyson and Sage in lead and Tyson, a creature of habit, wanted to go the way we used to, so I had to jump off and guide him through most of the turns. Darryl was responding to my commands, but he was too far back in the team to make much of a difference.
We made it back, had lunch and headed home. I gotta say, there’s nothing much better than being out alone with a team of dogs, the sun shining down and a snowy landscape.
