7:30 am. 16 degrees.
I finally went into heat along with all the other femals at the kennel. Thank god there are no dogs trying to mount me anytime I get within two feet of them. Does that mean I can blame my last two weeks grumpiness on PMS? Or maybe that combined with the bruised tailbone I got slipping on ice walking my perfect dog that would never pull me excitedly over ice.
Runs have been going well. Am finally figuring out harnesses. The training loop is no longer enough of a challenge for the dogs so tomorrow we will be tackling the longer trail we run tours on. Would be great if we had a little more snow, but not sure when that will be coming. Seems like the snow falls a little later each year.
Had my usual suspects of Admiral who I smartly placed with Joon and had no issues. Darryl is keeping Pinto in place which she needs as she’s a hyperactive puppy. At the halfway point I put Duke in lead and he did a great job. Duke, for such as sweetheart is one of the squirmiest dogs in the kennel when it comes to taking medicine. Today was day one of de-worming. ‘Shock and awe’ says Kris about giving them the dose of liquid de-wormer. That works well for him as the dogs all but sit down and open their mouths for him. When it’s me alone, they think it’s play time, which it usually is. So I spend half the time getting them to calm down and quit wriggling around. I end up with as much de-wormer on me as in their mouths, but we get through it. Hopefully, that combined with the increase in food will put a little extra winter coat on a few of the puppies whose metabolism keeps them super slim.
Note to women dieting. A good dose of worms and lots of running around and the pounds will literally fall off.
