7:30 am. 28 degrees.

As I stepped out the door to walk Alma Rose before heading to the kennel, I was nearly blown over by gusts of wind. I thought for sure training would be postponed, but when I didn’t hear from Kris I headed out. The wind was calm out there, but the day was chilly. Fortunately there are no hunters till next season, so the trails we use for training are all open. We got harnesses sorted and headed out with three teams of dogs.

I had forgotten how relatively calm the older dogs are to harness and hook up. As soon as we got on the trail, heads and tails went down and they went to work pulling. I had Concrete and Tuxedo in lead and they did a great job. No surprises along the way. We got back to the kennel, praised dogs, unhooked them and put them away, turned around the four wheelers and got new teams ready. My memories of insane dogs were instantly rewarded with Heinekin who twisted and turned and cried so loud with excitement I almost lost an eardrum. We got the next crew out of the kennel. Had a little trouble coaxing them through the gate, as they wanted to head right which is the way we go in winter.

After that it was a piece of cake. All dogs pulled and no tangles.

We finally got to lunch around 2:00 pm. After that, I got to play with a nail gun putting together flooring for some new kennels. Then we hooked up the race team, 18 dogs. Kris headed out with them while we feed and gave the dogs some more water.
